Qatar gratuity rules at a glance
- You must complete at least one year of service.
- Minimum of three weeks (21 days) of basic wage for every year of service.
- Partial years are paid in proportion.
- Only the last basic wage is used; allowances are excluded.
- Your contract may give more than the legal minimum, never less.
- The employer may deduct amounts the worker owes.
Gratuity formula
Daily basic wage = monthly basic ÷ 30. Gratuity = 21 × daily wage × years of service.
Worked example
Rashid's basic salary is QAR 4,500 and he worked 6 years. Daily wage = 4,500 ÷ 30 = QAR 150. Gratuity = 21 × 150 × 6 = QAR 18,900.

Changing jobs in Qatar
Since the 2020 labour reforms, most workers can change employers without a no-objection certificate after giving notice. Your gratuity for service with the old employer is still due when that employment ends.
Tips before you leave your job
- Ask HR for a written final settlement that shows gratuity, unused leave, notice pay and any deductions.
- Check that the salary used is the right one: basic salary.
- Keep copies of your contract, salary slips and bank statements.
- If you disagree with the amount, contact the Ministry of Labour, Qatar before you leave the country.
