UAE Gratuity Calculator 2026
Work out your end-of-service gratuity in UAE in seconds. Enter your monthly basic salary, your joining date and your last working day. The calculator follows Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (UAE Labour Law), Article 51.
UAE gratuity rules at a glance
- You must complete at least one year of continuous service.
- 21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years.
- 30 days of basic salary for each year after five years.
- Partial years are paid in proportion to the time worked.
- Total gratuity cannot be more than two years' wage.
- Only basic salary counts; housing, transport and other allowances are excluded.
- Under the 2021 law, gratuity is not reduced if you resign, unlike the old law.
Gratuity formula
Daily basic wage = monthly basic ÷ 30. Gratuity = (21 × daily wage × years up to 5) + (30 × daily wage × years above 5).
Worked example
Ahmed's basic salary is AED 5,000 and he worked for 7 years. Daily wage = 5,000 ÷ 30 = AED 166.67. First 5 years: 21 × 166.67 × 5 = AED 17,500. Next 2 years: 30 × 166.67 × 2 = AED 10,000. Total gratuity = AED 27,500.

Free zones and government jobs
This calculator follows the federal private-sector law. Employees in the DIFC and ADGM free zones are covered by their own employment laws (the DIFC uses a savings scheme called DEWS), and federal or local government employees follow separate pension and gratuity rules. Check your contract and HR policy if you work in these sectors.
Tips before you leave your job
- Ask HR for a written final settlement that shows gratuity, unused leave, notice pay and any deductions.
- Check that the salary used is the right one: basic salary.
- Keep copies of your contract, salary slips and bank statements.
- If you disagree with the amount, contact the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) before you leave the country.

Frequently asked questions
Is gratuity calculated on basic salary or total salary in the UAE?
On basic salary only. Allowances such as housing, transport and phone are not included.
Do I get gratuity if I resign in the UAE?
Yes. Under the 2021 UAE Labour Law, employees who resign after at least one year of service receive full gratuity. The old reductions for resignation no longer apply.
Do I get gratuity for less than one year?
No. You must complete at least one year of continuous service.
When must the employer pay gratuity?
The law requires end-of-service dues to be paid within 14 days of the end of employment.
