Last reviewed September 29, 2026 · By Ammar Aslam

Work out your end-of-service gratuity in Saudi Arabia in seconds. Enter your monthly last wage (basic plus fixed allowances such as housing), your joining date and your last working day. The calculator follows Saudi Labour Law, Articles 84 and 85.

Saudi Arabia gratuity rules at a glance

  • Half a month's wage for each of the first five years.
  • One month's wage for each year after five years.
  • Partial years are counted in proportion.
  • The award is based on the last wage, which normally includes basic salary and fixed allowances such as housing; variable commissions are usually excluded.
  • If the employer ends the contract or it expires, you get the full award.
  • If you resign: nothing under 2 years, one-third after 2–5 years, two-thirds after 5–10 years, and the full award after 10 years (Article 85).

Gratuity formula

Full award = (monthly wage ÷ 2 × years up to 5) + (monthly wage × years above 5). If you resign, multiply by 0, 1/3, 2/3 or 1 depending on service.

Worked example

Bilal earns SAR 6,000 (basic + housing) and resigns after 7 years. Full award = 6,000 ÷ 2 × 5 + 6,000 × 2 = SAR 27,000. Because he resigned after 5–10 years, he receives two-thirds: SAR 18,000. If his contract had ended, he would receive the full SAR 27,000.

Women and special cases

Article 87 of the Saudi Labour Law gives the full award in some cases even after resignation, for example when a woman resigns within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth, or when leaving is due to force majeure. Workers dismissed for serious misconduct under Article 80 may lose the award.

Tips before you leave your job

  • Ask HR for a written final settlement that shows gratuity, unused leave, notice pay and any deductions.
  • Check that the salary used is the right one: last wage (basic plus fixed allowances such as housing).
  • Keep copies of your contract, salary slips and bank statements.
  • If you disagree with the amount, contact the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) before you leave the country.

Frequently asked questions

Is Saudi end of service calculated on basic or total salary?

It is based on the last wage, which usually includes basic salary and fixed allowances such as housing. Check your contract for what counts as wage.

How much do I get if I resign after 3 years in Saudi Arabia?

One-third of the full award. For example, with a SAR 6,000 wage the full award for 3 years is SAR 9,000, so you receive SAR 3,000.

Do I get anything if I resign before 2 years?

No. Under Article 85 there is no award for resignation with less than two years of service.

Is there a minimum service for the full award if the employer ends the contract?

No minimum is set in Article 84; the award is calculated in proportion to the service completed.

This calculator gives an estimate for private-sector employees. Your contract, unpaid leave, deductions and special cases can change the final amount. For an official answer contact the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD).
