Saudi overtime rule (Article 107)
The employer must pay for each overtime hour an amount equal to the actual hourly wage plus 50% of the basic hourly wage. The actual wage includes basic salary and regular allowances; the 50% premium is worked out on basic salary only.
- Normal hours: up to 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week.
- Ramadan: up to 6 hours a day or 36 hours a week for Muslim workers.
- Work on rest days and official holidays counts as overtime.
- Overtime should be recorded and paid with your salary.
Formula
Actual hourly wage = total wage ÷ 30 ÷ daily hours. Basic hourly wage = basic ÷ 30 ÷ daily hours. Overtime rate = actual hourly wage + (basic hourly wage × 50%).
Example
Basic SAR 6,000, total SAR 7,500, 8-hour days, 12 overtime hours. Actual hourly wage = 7,500 ÷ 240 = SAR 31.25. Basic hourly wage = 6,000 ÷ 240 = SAR 25. Overtime rate = 31.25 + 12.50 = SAR 43.75 per hour. Total = 43.75 × 12 = SAR 525.
