Bahrain End-of-Service Gratuity Through the SIO: How It Works
Bahrain changed its end-of-service system for foreign workers on 1 March 2024. Instead of employers paying the whole gratuity when the job ends, they now pay monthly contributions to the Social Insurance Organization (SIO), which pays the worker.
Contribution rates

| First 3 years | 4.2% of the monthly wage |
| After 3 years | 8.4% of the monthly wage |
These rates match the traditional formula: half a month's wage per year (≈ 4.2% a month) for the first three years and one month per year (≈ 8.4% a month) after that.
Service before March 2024
Your employer remains responsible for gratuity earned before 1 March 2024 and should pay that part directly when your employment ends.

Claiming from the SIO
- Make sure your employer registered you with the SIO and reports your correct wage.
- When your job ends, apply through the SIO's official channels (sio.gov.bh).
- Keep your CPR, passport, contract and bank details ready.

Because money is set aside every month, your gratuity is protected even if your employer later has financial problems or closes.
