How to Check Your UAE Visa and Emirates ID Status Online

Whether you are waiting for a new employment visa, renewing your residence or checking an Emirates ID application, you can check the status online through official government services. You do not need to pay any third-party website to do this.

Which authority handles your visa?

• Dubai residence visas are handled by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai): gdrfad.gov.ae.
• Other emirates (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah) and Emirates ID are handled by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP): icp.gov.ae.

What you need

• Your passport number and nationality
• Your Emirates ID number or visa file number (shown on the visa or entry permit)
• Date of birth
• The application or transaction number, if you are tracking a new application

How to check

1. Open the official website or the official app (UAEICP for ICP, GDRFA Dubai for Dubai).
2. Look for the visa or file validity inquiry service, or the application status service.
3. Enter your details exactly as they appear on your passport and visa.
4. The result shows whether the visa or permit is valid, cancelled or expired, and its expiry date.

Menus on government portals change from time to time, so use the search box on the official site if you cannot find the service.

Useful tips

• Use only official sites. Fake "visa check" pages sometimes ask for payment or personal data. Government URLs end in .gov.ae.
• After a job ends, check that your visa has actually been cancelled before you leave or start a new job. Overstaying after cancellation can lead to fines.
• Grace period: after cancellation, residents normally get a grace period to leave or change status. Check the current length on the ICP or GDRFA site, as it has changed in recent years.
• Keep a screenshot of your visa status and cancellation for your records.
